Country Houses and Gardens

Cotehele House (NT) is a beautiful medieval house untouched by time, with lovely gardens and woodland walks. Additional warehouse buildings at the quayside and an ancient working watermill makes this a whole day out, especially if you stop for lunch in one of the restaurants. One of our favourite places in Cornwall.

Lanhyrdrock House (NT) is a magnificent country house with beautiful gardens and lots to interest the visitor.

Antony House (NT), which was chosen for the set in the film Alice in Wonderland, and which has lovely grounds sweeping down to the Lynher Estuary, is also within easy reach and well worth a visit.

Pencarrow House and Gardens with 50 acres of tranquil grounds is a great day out for families, garden lovers and, of course, dogs.

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park has wonderful gardens including an Italian Garden and Orangery where refreshments are served. It has lovely walks along the coast with well positioned benches and ancient fortifications from which you can watch warships, ferries and yachts entering the River Tamar from Plymouth Sound. A fascinating place to visit for all the family, whatever age.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah Gardens and our personal favourite, Pinetum Gardens are all an easy drive from Penvith, and of course the Eden Project is a fabulous, all the year round, plant paradise.

The National Trust house and gardens at Cotehele are well worth a visit
